Shapes Unit

For the past few months we have been learning about different shapes. We discussed how many sides and corners each shape has. We also learn how to say that shape name in Spanish. Take a look at some of the neat activities we did.

Working with translucent shapes at the light table
Look we made a sunflower!
Sponge painting shapes
Shape matching
Practicing how to hold our scissors safely!!
We worked on our fine motor skills by cutting out pentagon shapes
We pasted the shapes to cardstock
Then we added some designs with pencil. Some of us made pentagon people and houses.
We played the "Shape Find" game in the class room. Look, Zoey found a triangle!
 Shape matching scenes

We researched the Pentagon. We found so many neat photos of the building from different views. We learned so many interesting facts; when the building was built, what it is used for, where it is located, and much more! The internet is such a great learning tool. Some of the kids asked if we could take a field trip to the Pentagon. Ms. Ashley told the preschoolers that it is pretty far away, better ask your parents!!!    :)

Shape Walk

Learning is not limited to the classroom! We learn through the world around us not just by sitting at a desk. We love to expand on our learning outdoors. Here are some of the shapes the preschoolers found on our "Shape Walk"...

The manhole cover is a CIRCLE with DIAMONDS (RHOMBUS) inside of it
The window is a RECTANGLE

There is an OVAL (ELLIPSE) on the sign
There are two street signs that are a RECTANGLE & DIAMOND (RHOMBUS)
"Look a OCTAGON" one of the kids shout
The window has many SQUARES
The tire of the truck has TRIANGLES inside it
There's also a TRIANGLE on the top of our club house

What a fun walk! We learn something new everyday!!!
