Learning About Native American Culture

We read about early Native American culture and history. The children learned about Native American's different types of homes, arts and crafts, crops, food, ceremonies, and tribes.

We used ideas from the books that we read to create beautiful pictures on our artwork.

We had so much fun creating our Indian Headdresses
We had a feather for every color of the rainbow
We drew pictures of buffalo, Native American people, bow and arrows, horses, homes, and trees on the headdresses

Kansas Read To Preschoolers Week~Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Book~November 13-19 2011

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
by Bill Martin, Jr.

The 2011 Kansas Reads to Preschoolers Week will focus on the celebration of Kansas’ 150 anniversary of statehood.  Author Bill Martin, Jr. is a well-known Kansas author and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom one of his best-known books.  It is available in every possible format:  hard back, soft back, big book, audio, Spanish, etc.  The book is described as a bright and lively rhyme, where the letters of the alphabet race each other to the top of the coconut tree. When X, Y and Z finally scramble up the trunk, however, the weight is too much, and down they all tumble in a colorful chaotic heap.

We Made Coconut Trees With Our Hand Prints (Palm Leaves) And Our Fore Arms (Tree Trunk). We Completed Our Tree With Our Names. Notice The Letters Are Falling Down The Tree.
We Placed Magnetic Letters On The Palm Tree Just Like In The Book.
We Practiced Saying The Letter Names And Sounds.
Some Of The Children Spelled Their Names And Made Words.
We Love To Read Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom Underneath The Coconut Tree!

This Is Are Absolute Favorite Book At School.
We Can Read It Over And Over Again!
